Ruud Krol managed to force a smile after Orlando Pirates won the MTN8 final in a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Moroka Swallows.

The match at the majestic Moses Mabhida Stadium ended 1-1 after extra time, before Bucs made their composure during the dreaded lottery count.

In regulation time, the Sea Robbers were all over Swallows until Morgan Shivambu cancelled out Daine Klate's early opener with four minutes left on the clock.

It seemed like Pirates were going to throw away another chance to end their ten-year major cup drought, but Krol's charges stayed cool on the spot.

And the coach, whose job reportedly depended on him delivering the MTN8 trophy to Parktown, cut a happy and relieved figure after the game.

"I'm happy. Maybe I'm not showing it, but I am very happy for the club to win something after a long time and we did it today," he said.

"In the last ten minutes we gave it away - they had one shot on target, but that is football and lucky we were better in penalties."

Krol couldn't bare to watch as the spot kicks were taken and explained: "You never know in the shootout with the nerves who is going to win, but today we were better and it was our day.

"I'm not a celebrating man, but I am happy for my players, I am happy for the technical team, I am happy for the club, for the president and everyone who works for the club.

"We must enjoy this moment, especially the fans," he concluded.

Klate, who scored from open play and from the spot agreed. The winger said: " This is just a fantastic feeling and fans deserved this more than anything. They are the most important part of this win and we thank them for staying with the club even without any trophies."
